When and How to Start Using Retnoids?

Hello! I’m 18 years old and I do have some mild acne all over my face. I used to not get any on my lower half and cheeks but with work and masks during the pandemic, I’ve developed some maskne. I heard retnoids are a great addition to skincare as an exfoliator and essentially a holy grail for acne care, but I’m a bit hesitant to try to use it, as I don’t want to irritate my sensitive skin with something that might be a harsh treatment. Do you think it’s worth starting a retinoid treatment and if so, how do you begin? Thanks!

yes. Start with a gentle retinol. I tagged a good gentle one. Use enough to cover the tip of your finger and use it all over your face. don’t use too much. start out only doing it twice a week and start doing 3-5 a week when your skin is more used to it. use a pea sized amount. also pha and Lha is a gentle chemical exfoliant that won’t irritate your face like bha (salicylic acid) or aha. (lactic acid and glycolic acid) I tagged some good products.

consult dermatologist, start with low dose like 0.25% every alternate day, remember to use moisturizer and sunblock with retinol

I think you should consult a dermatologist first considering you're under 20s and usually retinol is suggested for they who have hit 20s, as retinol is famous for anti aging. There are some exceptions, like some acne cases where retinol can be used for those who haven't hit their 20s but it will be strictly under dermatologists' advice, they are also the ones who will give the prescription with retinol to tackle the problem.

retinol can be started at any age, I’m 18, and I have some retinol products ALL super gentle and around a concentration of 0.1%. It’s recommended to start that low, once a week, over your moisturizer, when you feel your skin is adapting slowly increase frequency, before you increase the percentage. the key is slow and steady win the race! retinols are also not exfoliants, they don’t work the same way.
