Here’s an unexpected skincare mistake that has been clogging my pores: applying moisturiser on a dry skin after double cleansing. 

It is only natural to grab a moisturising cream/emulsion after cleansing. But soon I learned from a Victoria’s Secret model that applying moisturiser on a dry face can clog pores, especially followed by over-cleansing. Thus, it is best to moisturise on a damp face.

I haven’t experimented it before, but I think this is overlooked by most of us so I ought to share this with y’all. Have anyone tried this method before? Let me know in the comments below!

Unexpected Mistake

It's lockdown here in Malaysia - everyone stays at home.  As I'm always staying indoors, I usually apply sunscreen or moisturizer with SPF. So may I ask if I need double cleansing in this case?

Should you double cleanse if you wear sunscreen only?

Let’s talk about pores. Nope - this isn’t the usual “just exfoliate regularly” and “use Salycilic Acid” -  here are some advices (from my personal experience) that are often overlooked. Feel free to share your experiences below too! 

I have normal to combination skin, and I used to have large pores clogged with stubborn blackheads around my nose. Annoyingly, they’d come back pretty quickly even after professional extractions. I’ve tried every tip I can find online, including using salycilic acid, clay masks, niacinamide and double cleansing, but nothing solved the problem permanently until there was a recent change in my skincare routine. 

So here are some tips that has helped minimised my pores (some of which are from an aesthetician), it might not be suitable for everyone but I hope you’d find them helpful! 

✨1. Most sunscreens are comedogenic, so it is very important to incorporate a cleansing milk daily in your evening routine. For combination skins like mine, cleansing oil is only ideal for lips, as it is more likely to cause your pores to be clogged, while micellar water can be too drying. Also, when you’re choosing a cleansing milk, avoid the ones that contain Isopropyl Palmitate or a lot of heavy oils.

✨2. At night, use a gentle (slightly foamy) cleanser after the cleansing milk and massage it patiently. 

✨3. Make sure you hydrate before you moisturise. 

✨4. Apply your skincare products when your skin is damp. 

✨5. All the skincare products in your routine - from clay masks to sheet masks - should be STRICTLY non-comedogenic. Even when it has the label, it’s best to double-check and look out for products with too many mineral oils.

✨6. Avoid excessive friction. 

✨7. Don’t over-exfoliate.
