I just started using a tretinoin treatment (I have attached the specific product that I’ve been prescribed and currently using). Although I’ve done my research on tretinoin, I’m still a bit nervous because I know it can be a tough journey, especially at the start.

Which benzoyl peroxide acne treatment did you use? How was your experience with it? How long did it take for you to see results? Do you have any tips or things you wish you knew when you first started using a benzoyl peroxide as an acne treatment?

Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment

I have started using a benzoyl peroxide acne treatment and as much as it helps with my acne, it does make my skin feel really tight and itchy. I usually apply the treatment on my forehead and chin and I avoid my eyebrows and upper lip but somehow those areas feel the driest. Whenever I apply my cleanser or moisturizer on them I get a tingling sensation. Sometimes I experience some flakiness but I don’t really mind it that much, as it only happens to my pimples when they dry out. Do you have any recommendations that might help me with this problem?

Right now I’m using the cerave moisturizing cream. As much as it helps with the driness, it’s so thick that it makes my eyebrows stick together and it also doesn’t blend well with my sunscreen, so I only use it at night.

Best Moisturizers For Dry & Sensitive Skin

Does anyone have any recommendations for micellar waters or makeup removers that are gentle on the skin and do not cause irritation?

During my night skincare routine, I like to use a makeup remover, usually micellar water, before I wash my face with a cleanser. I almost never wear makeup, but I do wear sunscreen everyday and I’ve heard that SPF cannot be fully removed with just the use of a cleanser. So I usually use micellar water want to ensure that any sunscreen from my day has been completely removed. 

The problem here is that it is very hard for me to find a good micellar water. I’ve tried a couple of micellar waters from Bioderma and Garnier but they mostly just irritated my skin. I’ve also heard balms and cleansing oils are good, but to be truthful whenever I wash my face, it gets very messy. There’s water all over my sink’s countertop, there’s water dripping down my elbows and making puddles on the floor... just very messy. Therefore, washing my face 2 times at night? To me it only screams like a lot of time spent on cleaning up after my mess, rather than finally getting in bed after a long day. Of course, I’m still open to receive any recommendations for cleansing oils or balms, for the future when I might start wearing makeup.

Overall, with micellar water and some cleansing wipes, to me it’s just a easier and faster way to double cleanse. 

I’ll attach the micellar waters as well as the cleansing balm that I have used in the past but did not work for me.

Makeup Remover Recommendations

I have been on my tretinoin journey for over 2 months at the moment. I’ve been very careful to not over complicate my skin care routine and to only use simple and hydrating cleansers and moisturizers (and of course physical sunscreen during the day). 

From my observations, my skin has made great progress since I have started. It is certainly not perfect and I still have a long way to go, but by far it has improved which I’m quite proud of.  

I would like to give more to my skin by including some serums that will help with hydration and hyper pigmentation, but I’m not sure what products to use. I’m also not sure how and when I should integrate the serum/s into my routine. Would it be better to apply them at night or in the morning? If at night, should I apply them before or after my tretinoin treatment? etc.,

I have also bought some serums that I didn’t get to use yet and I was wondering if some of them would go well if I incorporate them into my routine, but I am also open to other suggestions:))

Best Serums to Use When Using Tretinoin

I tried using this moisturizer in the morning. I waited a few minutes before applying my sunscreen but it left me with those little peel residue on my face. I also think you have to be careful sometimes because the moisturizer is quite thick and when i use it, somehow it makes my eyebrows stick together.

This moisturizer is affordable and it is great when you’re using an acne treatment like benzoyl peroxide or retinoid. After I apply it on my skin, it almost has a matte look finish to it.

I decided to give it a try but the morning after the first night I tried it, I woke up with a couple of new pimples. I really wanted this product to work but sadly it didn’t.

The ingredient list of this product is amazing and I have seen so many great reviews with this product.

• this downside might only be a problem for me. when i apply moisturizer i like to massage my face until it fully absorbs. since this product absorbs so quickly into my skin, im not able to do so anymore.

I know this moisturizer is great for oily skin types, but for some reason when i use it only makes my skin look more oily and shiny throughout the day:( This product, along with the brand is also not cruelty free, which is a big big downside:(( 

This is definitely a good start base moisturizer when you first start getting into skincare. I used to always use this moisturizer because I was afraid of trying out new ones, in case they broke me out. Until I finally started getting out of my comfort zone, I realized the downsides of this moisturizer. This is a great moisturizer if you want something that is lightweight, affordable, and has a simple ingredient list; but personally I would think that there are much better moisturizers out there that will help and do so much more for the health and beauty of your skin. I think this is a product that almost everyone should give it a try once in their lifetime, but afterwards to move on and explore much more and better options.
