Missha Aqua Sun Gel was a matte sunscreen and a favorite of those with oily skin. Not only did it have a lightweight texture perfect for summer, it also had zero white cast! There are plenty of mineral sunscreens with a matte finish, but leave a terrible white cast. So please comment any matte chemical or combo sunscreens with zero white cast that you know of! The only matte sunscreens I have used are Skinfood No Sebum Sun Gel and the new Tocobo Cotton Sun Stick. Please help me and other oily skinned people out and list all the sunscreens that you find to be matte. A natural finish is also acceptable. I would love some fragrance free and essential oil free options because they are so rare.

Since Missha reformulated the once matte Aqua Sun Gel to a dewy finish, help me make a list of truly matte sunscreens!

I’m not sure how effective vitamin C derivatives are. I did not notice a significant difference in my skin. I did not notice my hyperpigmentation lightening or my skin brightening. With pure L-ascorbic acid serums, I do notice brightening within a few days. Maybe I need to use this longer, so I will update later. 

I do not llike the fact that this contains retinol in the ingredients list. Vitamin C serums are generally supposed to be used in the morning and retinol should only be used at night. It is listed near the end of the ingredients list, so the concentration is probably very low. But then what is the point of including it in the serum to begin with? Retinol risks sensitizing the skin during the daytime in sunlight, so including it in a vitamin C serum that is generally supposed to be used in the AM doesn’t make sense.

This vitamin C serum has a luxurious viscous texture. Its a thick, almost gel like serum, which is different for me as I am used to vitamin C serums that are very watery and thin. When you first apply it to the skin, it glides over very easily and feels sticky. That concerned me until I realized five minutes later that it completely absorbed into my skin without any tacky feeling. This serum definitely does not have the typical vitamin C serum smell of “hot dog water”, which may be because this serum does not use pure L-ascorbic acid, but a vitamin c derivative called 3-O-ethyl Ascorbic acid. I didn’t detect any noticeable scent.  The serum is also packed with other skin-loving ingredients like vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, collagen, matrixyl 3000, niacinamide, turmeric, glutathione, and peptides.

This cleanser includes parabens, so if that bothers you, this may not be the cleanser for you. After using this cleanser, you do not feel like you cleansed your skin. It feels like you just rubbed a lotion on your face. So I do not recommend using this cleanser to remove makeup or sunscreen.

This product is good is you have very dry sensitive skin and do not need heavy cleansing. I like that there is a very minimal ingredient list and that there are no irritating ingredients like fragrance. When you use this cleanser, you will notice that it is very hydrating due to the inclusion of hyaluronic acid. This cleanser looks like a light lotion and does not foam up when water is added. I recommend using this cleanser as a morning cleanser or when your face is bare.

I can’t think of anythjng bad about this product! If I had to be overly critical, I would suggest changing the tube packaging to a pump dispenser and offering refills to reduce waste and be more eco-friendly. If you are looking for a cleanser that will remove water resistant sunscreen and heavy makeup on it’s own, this is not the cleanser for you.

I think I found my favorite cleanser for a 2nd cleanse of all time! This cleanser is very effective, yet gentle. It comes out of the tube as a thick cream that looks oddly pearlescent (hopefully you will be able to see this in the picture I took). When applies to wet skin, this lathers up very well and completely removes oil residue from cleansing balm and oils. The lather is just enough, not too much where it ends up being a thick foam as this cleanser only uses gentle surfactants. But one thing that makes this cleanser standout is that despite being a gentle cleanser, I would feel comfortable using this alone to remove non-water resistant sunscreen. After you rinse this cleanser off, I do not feel stripped at all, which is extremely rare for a foaming cleanser. This is the first foaming cleanser that I have ever used that leaves my skin feeling HYDRATED. I have never used a cleanser that is actually capable of deeply cleansing&#47;removing sunscreen without making your skin feel somewhat dry afterward. The only cleansers that I have used that do not leave me feeling stipped or dry after cleansing are cleansers that do not lather&#47;foam and usually have weak cleansing power, like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser or the La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. I would not feel comfortable using those cleansers alone to remove suncreen or light makeup. This cleanser is the only cleanser I’ve used that has found an effective middle ground between hydrating&#47;weak cleansing and stripping&#47;strong cleansing. In addition to leaving my skin feeling balanced and sufficiently cleansed, this cleanser also has been formulated without fragrance, essential oils, SLS, and other harsh surfactants. That makes this cleanser perfect for those with senstive skin, ezcema, and psoriasis. However, I think this cleanser is suitable for all skin types because it is a universal product. Not only will it not strip dry skin, it will also thoroughly cleanse oily skin and remove excess sebum. I highly recommend using this cleanser as 2nd cleanse cleanser after using a cleansing balm&#47;oil, but this could also work as a morning cleanser for those with oily skin and as a standalone PM cleanser on bare skin or light makeup&#47;non-water resistant sunscreen.

This can be sticky on the face as it is drying. However once dry, it is not shiny or heavy at all It also takes too long sometimes to fully sink into the skin.

This is my first centella based product so I was very impressed by how this instantly calmed down irritated skin and reduced redness. When I get a red inflamed pimple that hurts, this ampoule instantly calms the pain and within 15 minutes, the redness is almost gone. This is a great serum for anyone, as it has no potentially irritating ingredients. This has a thick, gel like texture that takes time to sink into the skin.

This sunscreen does leave a slight white cast, so it may not be great to use on its own. It works better under makeup where you can cover the white cast. This sunscreen is also heavily fragranced, therefore not suitable for sensitive skin. The high alcohol content is also not great for sensitive skin and those with rosacea. Because of the high alcohol content, I alsi would not recommend this suncreen for dry&#47;dehydrated skin.

This sunscreen feels very light and airy on the skin that you almost forget you have sunscreen on. It has a matte finish and works well under makeup. It is a mineral only sunscreen therefore you can use it without worrying about the absorption of chemical filters into the blood. Mineral sunscreens are also reef safe, which is not the case for all chemical sunscreens. Mineral sunscreen are also the only recommended types of sunscreens for pregnant women. I would recommend this sunscreen for oily and combo skin types.
