Does Order Really Matter?

Does Order Really Matter?

Yes, the order in which you apply your skincare products matters significantly. The general rule of thumb is to apply products from the lightest consistency to the heaviest. This ensures that the active ingredients in each product can properly penetrate the skin and work effectively. Here's a breakdown of why order matters and the typical sequence for a skincare routine: Why Product Order is Important Absorption: Lighter, water-based products (like toners and serums) are absorbed more easily by the skin. If you apply a thick, heavy cream or oil first, it creates a barrier that can prevent the lighter products from penetrating, making them less effective. Active Ingredients: Many active ingredients, such as those found in serums, need to be applied to clean, prepped skin to deliver their full benefits. Applying them over a moisturizer can dilute them and hinder their ability to reach the skin's deeper layers. Product Interaction: Some ingredients work best when applied in a specific order or at different times of the day (e.g., Vitamin C in the morning, retinoids at night) to avoid potential irritation or reduce their effectiveness. A General Skincare Routine Order This is a common and effective sequence, though you can adjust it based on your specific products and skin needs: 1. Cleanser: Always start with a clean canvas. Cleansing removes dirt, oil, makeup, and impurities, allowing subsequent products to be absorbed properly. If you wear makeup or heavy sunscreen, a double cleanse (starting with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based one) can be very effective. 2. Toner: An optional but beneficial step. Toners help to remove any remaining residue after cleansing, balance the skin's pH, and prepare it for the next steps. Some toners also provide hydration or gentle exfoliation. 3. Serums & Spot Treatments: These are the most concentrated products in your routine, designed to target specific skin concerns like fine lines, acne, or dark spots. They should be applied directly to clean skin. If using multiple serums, apply them from thinnest to thickest consistency. 4. Eye Cream: The skin around the eyes is delicate, and eye creams are specifically formulated for this area. It's best to apply them after your serums and before your moisturizer. 5. Moisturizer: This step is crucial for all skin types. Moisturizer locks in hydration and the active ingredients from your serums. It also helps to fortify the skin's protective barrier. 6. Face Oil (if using): Oils are thicker than moisturizers and should be applied last to "seal in" all the previous layers. They can act as an occlusive, preventing water loss from the skin. 7. Sunscreen (Morning Routine Only): Sunscreen is the final and most important step of your morning routine. It provides a protective layer against UV rays. It must be applied on top of all other products to be fully effective. Remember to give each product a moment to absorb before moving on to the next layer. While this may sound like a lot, a simple routine of cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen is a great place to start and is often all that's needed for healthy skin.

Dry/Resilient

This cream is simply amazing! I use it at night and the next morning my skin is silky smooth and it didn't take long for me to notice how much my smile lines had disappeared, my lips and upper lip are so plump, I have no lines or bags on my eyes and since using it I have been getting asked for ID in shops when I'm buying alcohol (I'm 32 next month!!!). It feels and smells amazing also.

I recieved this product for free from Picky and Skin1004 in exchange for my honest review. This is a light weight formula sunscreen. It is like a lotion. It applys easily without eye irritation. I enjoyed wearing it and it left a dewy finish. It also looks good under makeup. Lets not forget the ingredients as this is packed with goodies such as hyaluronic acid, centella and cica. This will help your skin barrier while providing spf 45!
