Beeswax Lip Balm

product review positives
Having been born and raised in hot and humid country, I have used many lip balms of some sort for 10 plus years, mainly to protect my fragile skinned lips from chapping. It of course became habitual use, which was fine. As I grow older, I gain a little perspective and perhaps some paranoia about the products I'm using in and on my body. I cannot say that Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm is better as far as overall effect than my previous brand. I still need to use it as often and I don't feel a great difference in my physical lip condition, but here's what I can write: When my lips are chapped Burt's Lip Balm has (natural) peppermint essential oil which uniquely cools and soothes taut feeling dry lips. It feels cold when applied, but not a burning cold. It smooths on nicely and there is no 'greasy' feel, just moisture. It appears to last (meaning the amount in the tube) just as long (perhaps a bit longer) than my previous brand. I feel I'm apply less swipes each time than my previous brand to get the same effect. Here's the most important part for me. I can pronounce every ingredient in Burt's lip balm. In my previous brand, there are things like 'methylparaben, phenyl trimethicone, propylparaben, red 6 lake, saccharin' and the list goes on, but I'm not listing them all. What are these things? I surely don't know. In Burt's balm this is the entire ingredient list : beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, peppermint oil, lanolin, rosemary/soybean/canola oils and limonene (a colorless liquid that is derived from citrus fruit). That's it. I know what all these ingredients are and I'm not scared of any of them. I am a habitual user of lip balm so once I tried a sample from the drug store, I knew I'd need a few and ordered a few different flavours for myself. I’m not a chemist but whatever is in Burt’s Bees seems to go on smoother and I can definitely feel the soothing effect more. And I like the freshness of the flavoured sticks (I chose the Best of Burt’s selection with Original Beeswax, Strawberry, Coconut & Pear, Vanilla Bean). I found that I enjoyed all the flavours but I rank them in this order: original, vanilla, coconut, strawberry. None of these lip balms have colours and they all tend to last quite a long time when compared with other brands. I use them before I go out, it makes my mouth not seem as dry. And I keep one everywhere I can think I will need it, by my bed, in my purse, in my car, etc. Do not leave them in the car. It is real wax and you will have a mess (unless you live somewhere cold). I do not love this balm enough to give the whole loving 5 stars, but it's a really good product, but it does not leave my lips feeling that full moisture feeling I'd really like to feel, but to be fair, no lip balm ever has. I do like this product enough that it has officially replaced my previous brand.
product review negatives
My only slight complaint is that this brand seems to have a particularly low melting point. If left in a slightly warm car for an hour, you can kiss it goodbye. The whole formula will turn completely liquid and sink to the lowest point of the tube from when it is reluctant to ever return. So, enjoy this great product, but be careful where you leave it.
