Mella uses plant-derived melatonin to help boost your body’s natural repair cycle and help you get better sleep by restoring your circadian rhythm. Turns out melatonin can be either ingested, or absorbed through the skin to achieve the same results. As a topical treatment it supports skin barrier function, reverses the signs of premature aging and protects your skin against environmental stressors including blue light, pollution, and oxidants.
This melatonin-infused facial moisturizer contains Prebiotic Goji Berry that promotes a healthy skin microbiome, increases skin firmness and diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles, Shea Butter to support skin barrier and deliver lasting hydration and Niacinamide that combats hyperpigmentation and reduces the look of pores. This cream has rather thick texture and I really like its pretty blue color. All its packaging is either recyclable, or compostable, which is a plus.
As much as I loved the concept behind this product, the execution just fell short for me. It doesn’t have any added fragrance, but the natural scent of it is basically what crashed melatonin tablet would smell like, which I don’t particularly enjoy. This cream is also very thick, alas it’s not a creamy buttery texture I was hoping for, but rather feels like paste, so it’s difficult to spread and if you put on too much, you just end up with with a layer of it sitting on your skin adding blue tint to your complexion. Both of those are not ideal, but not catastrophic, however when I tried applying sunscreen on top of this cream, it pilled horrifically, so while I can get away with using it in my PM routine, I don’t feel it’s suitable for use in the morning.
