This facial cleanser is a bit of a misnomer in the sense that it’s not black in color at all, which surprised me. I was sort of expecting some kind of charcoal facial wash. As it turns out, the black portion of the name comes from the feature ingredients of soybeans, seaweed, blackberry, and black truffle (!) all of which have antioxidant and hydrating compounds. Mildly acidic for skin balancing purposes because our skin has a natural acid mantle to protect itself from bacteria and environmental pollutants.
Was also surprised by the thick balm-like texture. It was almost difficult to squeeze out the tube the first time I used it because it was probably kept cool during transport. The texture makes me super nostalgic about some Japanese charcoal cleansers. I got a near squeaky clean feel without any tightness and I actually vastly prefer this texture over a foam for when my skin is feeling oilier. Very effective at removing greasepaint makeup and mascara. Had a little fun with it even though I didn’t feel like doing a full face of makeup to prove the product’s efficacy.
Who it is for:
Oily-skin types and heavy makeup wearers. It wouldn’t be my everyday cleanser because neither of those things apply to me but it is very effective if you’re feeling lazy and want to get everything off fast.
