It can leave a sort of oily film (the esters I think) ...hard to explain...but this resedue helps the next product to sink better&#47;deeper into the skin. Still... I personally use a gel (or milky) cleanser to leave the skin with that “cleaner” feeling (also a muslim cloth could work if you don’t find it irritating).

This product is great to take off your make-up without causing any breakouts or bumps (those that some of us get using oils or blams...). It removes any type of makeup with no diffuculty with its esters and watery texture. 
I personally splash it on my face and massage,  after having used the Aesop oil remover for eye make-up....then wash it off (follow by a gel cleanser).
