Maybe a sun cushion would work well? I've never tried one but using a sponge with a chemical sunscreen has worked. It is a bit dewy but doesn't disturb makeup too much unlike sticks.

Yes sunsticks after 4-5 swipes will mess up our makeup, no matter what brand. And you're also right about spray sunscreens. Most of them have instructions saying to spray on the hands first then apply it on the face to avoid inhalation, which defeats the purpose of a spray.
I recommend using a beauty sponge with your regular sunscreen and tap it in gently as shown here by Hannah English
