Battle of the Barrier Repairing Products: Stratia vs Krave Beauty

Greetings, skincare lovers. Have you ever suffered from a weakened (or completely destroyed) skin barrier? Cause I am at the moment and could really use your advice figuring out what product can save me from this flaky, dehydrated, angry looking skin hell. So: I’ve been struggling with mild to moderate acne (mainly a whole lot of pesky blackheads and some whiteheads) as well as uneven texture, hyperpigmentation and dullness for a couple months now - blame quarantine I guess? I freaked out and ended up popping pimples and terrorizing every single pore on my face (yes I know that’s a sin, I've already asked the skincare gods for forgiveness but they just ain’t listening), overexfoliating, and using way too many actives. I’m trying to do some damage control but can’t decide which product would be better for me: Krave Beauty's Great Barrier Relief or Stratia's Liquid Gold? Any recommendations and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Wishing y'all healthy, glowy skin! Edit: I have combination/sensitive/dehydrated/acne-prone skin. Yay me 🥲

I think Liquid Gold is superior, but it’s also really personal. There’s no way to say which one your skin will prefer. But LG has a much higher concentration and more types of ceramides, as well as a higher concentration of niacinamide. It’s my #1 holy grail product, I love it so much, but my skin is also really dry and not super acne prone.

I agree, LG’s formula does seem to be superior. I just worry that it might clog my pores and break me out? Which is what I’m trying to avoid as my skin is pretty congested at the moment. Guess I’ll have to test it out and hope for the best!

I've only personally used Liquid Gold, but it's a holy grail product for me. It has the golden ratio of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids (3:1:1) which is ideal for repairing and strengthening your moisture barrier. That said, I've heard good things about the Krave GBR, too. There's no real way to tell which one you'll like more without trying them, but I feel you can't really go wrong unless it turns out you're allergic to an ingredient.

It actually doesn’t have the golden ratio. They used to market it that way but it wasn’t correct, so they’ve stopped.

Studies show that barrier recovery happens when cholesterol:ceramides:fatty acids ratio is 3:1:1 (with any component being dominant). LG supposedly has that golden ratio. I have both and the Paula’s Choice Omega+ Serum. All are rich in fatty acids and all give me huge cystic pimples if used too long. My oily skin doesn’t like high amounts of oils/fatty acids. Because of that, I can only use these when my skin is feeling unhealthy and should not exceed four days. I like the Paula’s Choice Omega+ the most, then LG, but will not repurchase LG and GBR. Here are a couple of reviews comparing the two: https://greatist.com/health/barrier-repair-serums-review#barrier-restore-serum-110 https://iamkellydriscoll.com/2019/07/29/stratia-lquid-gold-vs-krave-great-barrier-relief-skincare-showdown/ (I’m not sure where she got the ratio from though. LG is fatty acid dominant, not ceramide dominant.)

Hadn’t heard about the PC serum before, but I’ll definitely check it out. This is very useful, thank you so much!
