Is it purging?

Hi! I just purchased Cosrx aha/bha clarifying treatment toner and Salicylic acid cleanser to target my comedones. It has been 5 days since I started using the products and it seems that pimples start to appear. Is my skin purging? Should I continue to use the products? Thank you!

It could be purging but I do think if you are using both of these on the same day, your skin can be feeling quite irritated right now. The AHA/BHA treatment toner is a gentle exfoiliating toner for everyday use (once a day preferably) but if it’s your first time using these acids or your skin is quite sensitive, it’s best to ease into it by using is a few times a week to begin with rather than everyday - this can help ease the purging process a bit. The salicylic acid cleanser is also pretty strong for everyday use, especially if you are using it alongside the AHA/BHA toner. I’d cut back the use to perhaps 1-2 times a week with the cleanser to begin with, and avoid using it on the same day as the toner. You are likely to purge with these acids but it’s good to be able to differentiate between purging and irriation - too much exfoilaition can compromise the skin barrier and cause you to breakout in areas where you perhaps don’t usually breakout.

If you are a beginner to Exfoliation, it could be purging. Yes, my advice would be continue using them. Please don't use them together. And don't use them everyday. 2-3 times is way more than you need. Start with 2 times a week. Both products on two separate days. Happy Skincare 🥰🤍

Five days might be too early to give up on those products. If the pimples appear on spots where you usually have them, that might be purging. But it can be quite hard to tell if it's a purge. Personally, I stop using a BHA or AHA product if I'm still breaking out after three weeks of using it.

For the toner i think yes. But it all depends on your skin too. Several people didn't have purging effect. For you, maybe it's purging. Must see around 2-4 weeks. If more than 4 weeks it break out.

Purging usually occurs because of misuse. I also use COSRX salicylic acid, after using this product I always use a toner that hydrates my skin, because after using a cleanser my face feels dry. For exfoliating toner is usually used twice a week. When trying a new product it's better to take it slow. Maybe you can go on for a few days, if it gets worse, you can stop.
