What NOT to combine with salicylic acid?

Hi everyone:) I know there’s been a few posts on what ingredients go and don’t go together but can anyone please give me a definitive list of ingredients NOT compatible with salicylic acid? Thank you:)

basically any active ingredient that has the potential to irritate your skin as well. Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid is the most pure form and most potentially irritating), AHAs, vitamin A (retinoic acid is the most pure form but only available by prescription, you also have retinol etc etc), benzoyl peroxide. however it's not that you *must not* mix these ingredients, it really depends on whether your skin can handle it. but mixing with those ingredients above just increases your chances of irritation, so it is advised to not mix them. also many of those ingredients listed above have gentler options -- like vit c derivatives, gentler AHAs (mandelic acid), PHAs. but gentler also usually means less effective.

Retinol and salicylic acid when combined can cause skin irritation when used. You do not want to use two potent ingredients that have the same effect on your skin. Combining these items might make your skin feel dry and sensitive, especially to direct sunlight.

Since salicylic acid is an active, actives should not be mixed with other actives in a routine. Ingredients such as AHAs, retinol and Vitamin C should not be combined with salicylic acid in order to avoid the risk of overexfoliation.
