It could be good for irritation or sunburns but I don’t know if it’s effective as a stand-alone moisturizer.

I wouldn't recommend it as your moisturizer because it doesnt have any emoliants in it that would lock in the moisture. You're experiencing thightness because your skin is now dehydrated and would need moisturizing products!

I have no problems using Aloe Gel on it's own as a moisturiser but I do use other hydrating products with it. Are you using other drying products in your routine? Exoliants? If so it may be you need to possibly reduce your exfoliant use or use a thicker gel/cream moisturiser to counter the tightness you are feeling.
