Thoughts on Naturium/Susan Yara scandal

Does an owner’s action influence your buying behavior towards the brand? The story was that Susan Yara, a youtuber, has been badmouthing The Ordinary in favor of Naturium. She promoted Naturium for months, saying she was sent PR items, her reviews are unbiased, etc. Turns out it was HER brand. She lied and obviously her reviews were biased. What she did go against FTC guidelines. She so shady. They’re saying it’s the biggest scam in influencer history. https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/hdr6zp/miscellaneous_skincare_youtuber_susan_yara_mixed/ https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/hfzfik/susan_yaranaturium_megathread_misc/ Did you or will you buy Naturuim despite the unethical action of the brand owner? My answer - it depends. I would feel guilty giving that person my business but if it’s a good product and there’s nothing like it out there.... this is really hard to answer. Like Nike and Apple and the child labor scandal 😢. Will I stop using my Nike shoes and Apple devices? Noooo. So complicated.

Personally it did affect me in the beginning but I bought the products out of curiosity and ended up loving them!!! They're really good products but I agree the launch was scandalous.

For me it also depends but for the child labor with phones that is so complicated to stop buying phones the best thing to do is only to buy a new phone if you absolutely need it / that's the same for every other shady brands if you can't find a better alternative(in my opinion)

I don’t think she had bad intentions, she just genuinely wanted honest feedback without having her name and face tied to the brand. My only gripe with it is, the fact that she brought down one company in order to make hers look better. I think that’s where the majority of her audience was upset with her.

That's why it doesn't seem unintentional or innocent to me

I haven’t tried the brand but there are some things on my wishlist so I may still get them despite the scandal Depends on my mood at the time, but rn I don’t think it will influence my support of the brand

I was definitely turned off because of the shady start.. but all these great reviews of the Naturium products plus the affordability and accessibility is making it hard to stay away 😅 I will most likely end up trying out a product or two in the future, but I won't be supporting her YouTube channel (not because of the scandal, I just don't like her content).
