How to keep hair fresh longer in-between washes?

Hello everyone. I have been personally struggling not washing my hair every two days as it gets oily and weights down my roots and curly hair. As a result, it has become brittle, matte and very difficult to brush. I can't go outside for one day then arriving back home feeling my hair is disgusting and sticked in sunscreen and city dirt, pollution and gunk. I hate the idea of laying my hair on the pillow then rubbing my face on it. But for the sake of my hair, I should be washing my hair less... How about you, do you feel similarly about your hair routine? What are your products, tips and tricks for keeping hair fresher and oil free in-between washes? Dry-shampoo? Clarifying shampoo? Sleep caps? Please feel free to drop your ideas in this discussion. 😊

if you have an oily scalp, you can use clarifying shampoo or any hair scrub product once a week to cleanse your scalp. another alternative, use anti-dandruff shampoo but remember to use conditioner or a hair mask to moisturize your hair because the anti-dandruff shampoo makes hair rough after washing. also, it's important to wash your hair properly, you can find it on youtube. as someone with an oily scalp who lives in a humid country, it's annoying to wash my hair every day because it's just greasy easily, but now I can shampoo once every 3days

Hi! Thanks for your tips. 😊 I use a medicated Shampoo from Neutrogena. I haven't tried a hair scrub yet. I am looking into a chemical exfoliation treatment with sapicylic acid instead. I always use plenty of conditioner (never on my scalp). I use my fingertips to massage and scrub my scalp and less the hair in order to spare it from dryness. One thing I've noticed though, because I feel anxious, I start "massaging" my scalp with my hands a lot and I think this stimulates the oil glands. I've consciously worked to stop this and I've noticed an improvement, although it doesn't last. I am now trying a scalp serum with some mint essential oil (I know, yuck) but it seems to have a nice toning effect and reduce the oil production. :D

Do you double wash when you wash your hair? That’s a game changer. Do you exfoliate your scalp? A good exfoliation will also help. Do you use many products in your hair or touch your hair often. That will increase the oiliness. Dry shampoo are ok but often a temporary fix. Brittle dull hair can sometimes lack hydration. A hair mask? also a sleeping cap and silk pillow case will help your hair and scalp

Hi! I double wash, sometimes even going the third time with shampoo in. I haven't tried yet ti exfoliate my scalp but I am eyeing The Inkey List's Salicylic Acid scalp treatment. I heard that some people use sugar granules mixed with shampoo but haven't tried that yet. I touch my scalp and hair a lot. I think this is one of the main issues. Most of the time I do this unconsciously but I have started to tone down this behaviour. I use shampoo and conditioner only on my midsections and tips. I don't use oils or other leave-in products. My hair has been like this since I was a teenager. I think I need to incorporate a mask as you've mentioned. I've got a sateen pillowcase and noticed it helps with frizz. 😁

Getting a professional hair shampoo for oily hair helps. Professional hair shampoos are typically use in salon. They're more effective and stay fresh longer. Brands like L'Oreal has entire range of shampoos for salon use.

Dry shampoo is a life saver! You can try a hair mask and scalp exfoliating to see if they help at all. I have the same problem 🤷‍♀️ I've noticed when I'm in other countries, my hair is completely different due to the water we shower with!!!

I'll have to try dry shampoo to see how it fares! Hair issues are anxiety inducing for sure haha 😅 Have you tried any scalp exfoliating product?

I wish I had the perfect answer. I myself have to wash mine every other day. I use a dry shampoo in between. I’ve tried not washing it as much when I’ve been off work etc but it hasn’t helped me. You should buy shampoo based on your roots, so one that is for oily hair and a conditioner based on the ends of your hair. Try not to apply the conditioner straight on the roots ❤️
