Do you know which is applied first, chemical sunscreen or mineral sunscreen?

Considering there's been a lot of interest surrounding sunscreens and how to incorporate them into your skincare routine, I wanted to share a helpful tip. I always remember C comes before M in the alphabet to ensure chemical sunscreens are applied first before moisturizers and mineral sunscreens are applied after moisturizers. I choose to only use one at a time however I know some that prefer using both. Mineral sunscreens contains sunblock such as Zinc oxide or Titanium dioxide while Chemical sunscreens contains oxybenzone, avobenzone and octinoxate. Have you found a convenient way of remembering the steps in your skincare routine?

This is wrong. Any sunscreen always goes on last regardless if its a chemical or physical sunscreen. If you apply something over you are compromising it's effectiveness

I understand the differences in opinions however I've learned being open to all views can indeed be insightful. As a person that's experienced skin cancer (face) which requires ongoing dermatology care, I was advised of the following. Chemical sunscreens must be absorbed by the skin for them to work effectively as opposed to mineral sunscreens must be applied on top hence the name "sun block" I suggest anyone unsure about sunscreens to consult with a dermatologist rather than guessing.

Sunscreens should always be the last step in your morning skincare routine. Anything that you apply on top of sunscreen will disrupt the protective film it forms (yes that includes makeup). There is no different between chemical and mineral sunscreens as they both act the same theoretically. They both form a thin, even layer on your skin and helps absorbs UV rays and turns it into heat which dissapates off your skin. Mineral filters do reflect UV rays but only a small percentage, less than 5% rays.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of confusion surrounding sunscreen ingredients which only leaves people vulnerable. I suggest consulting with a dermatologist otherwise Good Luck to you😊

Dermatologist are specialists in skin, not in skincare ingredients. Those are cosmetic chemists and toxicologists. If you want to know how SPFs work - read research papers and not opinions.

WOW!! I didn't realize sunscreens were so controversial by others rejecting all that may disagree or chooses a different approach. I naively assumed I was correct as well but 30 yrs later I was proven wrong. I've shared my experience in hopes of others avoiding what I had to go through and if anyone is in disagreement or chooses negativity, please move on because this is a very personal matter to me. Thanks 🙂
