How to rebuild skin barrier?

I have sensitive and dry skin. Growing up I had rosacea and skin conditions so I would always use prescribed creams which I think eventually ended up thinning my skin barrier. I no longer use these products. Now when using products almost all of them burn and I struggle to find something that doesn’t irritate my skin. Most often I struggle through the pain and sometimes products will turn out to be amazing once the initial sensations fade away. I would like advice on how to rebuild a strong skin barrier and also ingredients to stay away from. I have heard there are apps that can tell you if a products contains harmful ingredients so if you have any app recommendation that would also be useful! Thank you in advance!

Thicker ocklusive creams are good for healing barriers. I’d go for creams with ceramides and glycerin. if you’ve had rosacea and are prone to it I’d look for lines that are made for it as they are much gentler if you have a compromised barrier go easy on the irritating actives like BHA, AHA, vitamin C and retinol. many with rosacea have problems with niacinamide as well

I have dry, sensitive skin with redness as well. definitely opt for calming ingredients like Cica, Propolis. Use products that are unscented and hydrating. Finally, look into Azelaic Acid. I use it a few times per week but you'll need to spot test. Those with Rosacea have found a benefit and once you do repair your skin barrier, it works well with Retinol and the like.

When rebuilding your skin barrier its best to focus on basic routine and avoid actives since your since is sensitive and resilient. Try using oclusive creams that are rich in ceramides as this provides a gentle and great approach when rebuilding a compromised barrier. You can also integrate calming or soothing ingridents to assist your concern like Centella Asiatica, Mugwort and Greentea.
