In kbeauty there are daily sunscreens (those we are most familiar with) and outdoor sunscreens (these are water-resistant). I think it makes sense that there are fewer sunscreens that are water-resistant. Daily sunscreens are most probably used more than outdoor sunscreens there unlike in many other countries where people only use sunscreen when it's summer or when going summing

This does make sense. Do you have some examples of Korean outdoor sunscreens? 😊

@Doossa explained it perfectly! 🤌 Many aren't aware that Kbeauty sunscreens are divided into two types; daily sunscreens and outdoor sunscreens. The popular ones on social media are almost always the daily, non-waterproof ones which again makes sense due to its comfortable texture meant for daily, casual use (office workers, short errands etc). The waterproof outdoor sunscreens usually becomes popular in summer like the ones tagged below

@MimiMomoSkincare if you like the SKIN1004 Water-Fit, then I think you'd enjoy the renewed Face Republic Purity Sun Essence. Similar lightweight consistency and same UV filters, (both manufactured by Kolmar). I don't think it's really an outdoor sunscreen but it claims to be waterproof/water-resistant

I believe it might be related to formulation and technology behind sunscreens. Majority of the brands are ordering sunscreens from the same manufacturer.

As Doossa said, it's because most kbeauty sunscreens are intended for indoor, non-exercise use every day.
If you're just sitting at a desk job, there's no need for extra binders that can cause pore clogging etc.
outdoor exercise sunscreens are just a different category.

I think it's also the culture of sun protection in Korea. Women (and some men) in Korea wear sun protection on a daily basis and in order to get a product that provides adequate UV coverage and make it still feel cosmetically elegant is hard.
UV filters and ingredients that help provide water resistance in formulation are usually oily substances that can only emulsify in oil, as such, the texture and finish can be quite greasy and heavy.
Whereas in Europe and North America, people only really wear sunscreen for outdoor activities. So it makes sense that sunscreens manufactured in Europe and North America are typically water and sweat resistant.
