I just used it as a toner after every cleanse, but my skin type is the opposite to yours. I will say that while my skin is actually very tough to glycolic, lactic, and salicylic, it's quite sensitive to mandelic (no almond allergy). I tried a 9% mandelic acid from another brand and it caused my hand to peel from application of it, as well as my face.
So, I imagine it's a very personal thing and you'll just have to use it conservatively to avoid irritation if you're concerned about that

Mandelic acid is best applied after cleansing and before other skincare products, such as toner, serums, and moisturizers. It is typically used in the evening, as it can increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. While it's important to be cautious when using any exfoliating acid with other products, mandelic acid tends to be milder and less irritating than some other AHAs.

I used this toner like any other exfoliating toner. A few nights a week on dry skin.
