Allergic to centella? πŸ₯²

Hey pickies, has somebody experienced any burning or stingin sensation when using products with centella aaiatica? Every time my skin is a bit irritated or sensitised I have to AVOID any centella product. They make my skin even more angry, they sting reaaaally bad and I turn out looking like a tomato πŸ… my skin turns red and it just hurts πŸ˜• I've had this reaction with all kind of products (ampoules, creams, serums, sunscreen) Madecassoside, a single compound of cica, on the other hand, helps my skin a loot in these cases... Weird, isn't it? Let me know if you also has this problem or if I'm alone on this world with my irritated skin hating the #1 ingredient to soothe it πŸ˜’

My skin was irritated with both Skin1004's ampoule. I first tried the Brightening Ampoule which caused slight redness. Then, I thought perhaps the pure Centella ampoule will work on me, yet it gave me burning sensation and my whole face was red. I posted a discussion back then specially for this issue and found out that the reason might be high concentration of centella. To be frank, 90% of my skincare routine includes centella, and I owned different brands' centella ampoule which give me great results. So, I agree with @qilss that it could be the formulation. Or perhaps, you're sensitive towards high concentration of centella, I looked it up, and it is a thing. Maybe experiment with different reputable brands if you want to confirm your guess.

Yes I agree with the high concentration centella being the culprit too! Some skin just can't tolerate certain ingredients in high concentrations, similar to niacinamide and hyaluronic acid

Cica is short for centella...so it's literally the same thing Centella asiatica = cica As for the stinging sensation, I think it probably depends on the product. I've experienced stinging with a centella ampoule from one brand when my skin is sensitised, but didn't have the same issue with a centella ampoule from another brand. So it really depends on the formulation and our skin's reaction

You're right, I meant madecassoside, a single compound of centella. Was it the skin1004 ampoule the one that gave u that stinging sensation?

It's not unusual for people to develop allergic reactions to botanical ingredients.
