Popular brands inside vs. outside of Korea 🇰🇷

What k-beauty brands do you wish were more accessible abroad? ✈️ Just as certain k-beauty brands market themselves pretty much exclusively internationally rather than abroad, so are several widely used and loved brands on the Korean market less known outside of Korea. As someone living in Korea, brands like Torriden, Dr.G, Aestura, Wellage, Cell Fusion C and beplain are not very common abroad. On the other hand, brands like Beauty of Joseon, Skin1004, iUnik and Tia’m are not that easily found or well known in Korea. From what I understand, some Korean brands decide to direct most, if not all, of their marketing efforts outside of Korea and becomes huge in foreign markets, while being largely absent on the domestic Korean market. I think this is quite an interesting strategy, and it seems to work well for many brands!

When I moved to my mom (Korea), I could discover so many amazing brands! I generally love to try out the ones which most probably aren’t known well but when i realized that the ones trending here became my faves, i started to hope that they expand. Even though they are so amazing I don’t know why they didn’t already! Might be because in the west people have other expectations from products or smth ? But yeah there are so many diverse ones that you feel like in heaven. In the west there is definitely a lack of the best brands from Korea in my opinion. I really love Wellage, Aestura, Sioris, Barr, Cell Fusion C, B_Lab,Zeroid and illiyoon just to name a few! For makeup i discovered I love Hince, Peach C, blessed moon, eglips, LAKA and colorgram:TOK Would love to see them all over the world!

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t know that those brands were more popular i SE Asia! Honestly, I wish South East Asia was more recognized in ”mainstream” kbeauty content outside of Korea. Hera is definitely a brand on my list as well, it’s just a little higher end so I’m saving up. Laka has a pretty aesthetic but truthfully I hadn’t heard about aou before 🌟

Agree with @pocelyn! I live in SEA, and I got to purchase all kinds of brands Dr.G, Cell Fusion C and etc as well as Tiam and Skin1004. For me, it depends on the influencers that one followed. Since I followed more Korean and Japanese YTbers and influencers, I got to know more of local Korean and Japanese favs. I was introduced by friends to the american and european influencers during pandemics, only then I realized there's another side of kbeauty brands which target the west market such as BOJ, Tiam, Isntree and skin1004. At first, it was shocking to discover brands claimed to be korean but were unknown to local koreans. The fact that those brands build a huge reputation outside of Korea yet remained unknown in Korea is still a fact today for some brands such as isntree, iunik and Tiam. To be honest, I don't see a huge difference between both side of kbeauty brands. Brands such as Dr.G, Aestura, Skin1004 and Torriden do market in SEA countries. I like to think that we do get the best of both side😂

Thank you for such a detailed response, providing more perspectives from SEA. As a Westerner I think the market is a bit more separated, and there seems to be quite a difference between the brands being promoted and used in the West vs East and South East Asia. Much of the content I come across from American or European content creators, as well as korean beauty websites with global shipping, includes certain brands. It’s nice that you have access to both!
