I received this product for free from Picky and VDL in exchange for my honest review. To be frank, I don’t really invest in a lot of lip products but it is definitely something I should do because I struggle with chapped, dry lips. I stick to Aquaphor and call it a day but after trying this product, I realized there are far superior quality lip masks and essences.
The VDL conditioning lipcerin is an occlusive lip mask that contains several ceramides, peptides, shea butter, and squalene to deeply nourish and moisturize the lips. What’s interesting is how it also contains protease (an enzyme) and gluconolactone (PHA) fairly high on the ingredient list so it exfoliates the lips to get rid of flakiness too, which I love! I also learned that lipcerin is a combination of “lips” and “glycerin” (which is super high on the ingredient list) and the CNP lipcerin also means the same thing! Both brands are under LG so it makes sense why there’s no copyright issue. The ingredients make this product ideal for removing flakiness off of the lips, smoothing fine lines, deeply moisturizing the lips, while leaving a glossy finish.
The packaging is very classy, and I am familiar with the twisting mechanism from the Fenty lip mask, so I’m happy that kbeauty has hopped on that train. It makes dispensing product much easier and more precise than a squeeze tube, and it also helps preserve the product so that it lasts longer! I definitely prefer it to the aquaphor packaging, which is what I have been using prior to receiving this product.
I prefer using this product at night so that I can slather a lot of it on and let it work its’ magic while I sleep. However, the finish is super shiny and glossy and I also enjoy wearing this during the day when I want my lips to be glossy without having to wear lip gloss! Lip gloss looks wonderful but it can actually contribute to drying out your lips, so when I want a colorless shine on my lips, I reach for this.
The consistency isn’t as thick as you would expect. It’s not balmy the way that aquaphor and vaseline are but it’s also not lightweight. I consider this to be a lip mask or lip treatment. I use this product in two ways: lip basting and moisture boosting. Lip basting is when you exfoliate your lips with an AHA (I use glycolic acid). This removes all the dead skin cells on the lips, making it ready for some nourishment. I then apply a thick layer of the lipcerin and when I wake up, there are 0 flakes or dryness on my lips. The moisture boosting method is when I first hydrate my lips either with a hyaluronic acid or polyglutamic acid serum. After it absorbs into my lips, I apply a thick layer of the lipcerin and wake up to soft, plump, smooth lips.
I am so happy that I got to try this product because now my night routine is not complete without using it. It genuinely became one of my essentials very quickly and I recommend this to anyone struggling with dry, chapped, flakey lips with lots of lines on your lips.
