Tried BHA for My Skin Here’s What Actually Happened..

I kept seeing people talk about BHA in their skincare routines, especially for dealing with clogged pores, blackheads, and breakouts. So I got curious and decided to try it myself. First off, what even is BHA? BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid, and the most common one you’ll see in products is salicylic acid. It’s oil-soluble, which means it can go deep into your pores and clean out the gunk unlike many other ingredients that only work on the surface. I started using a toner with low BHA (around 0.5%) just 2–3 times a week. The first time I used it, there was a slight tingling feeling, but nothing too intense. I didn’t expect much at first, but after two weeks, I noticed fewer blackheads around my nose and smoother skin overall. It’s not a magic fix overnight, but it helped especially with texture and oil control. Now, about purging. Yes, some people experience it. I had a few tiny bumps pop up in the first week, but they faded pretty quickly. As long as you don’t overdo it and keep your skin hydrated, you’ll probably be fine. And yes, SPF is a must when using actives like BHA. So… is BHA worth it? For me, yes. It helped improve my skin without being harsh. But not everyone’s skin will react the same, so always start slow and patch test first. If you're struggling with clogged pores or minor breakouts, BHA might be something to try. Just keep it simple and listen to your skin. Let me know if you want a separate post about the product I used and how I used it!

When I was younger and first started using salicylic acid cleansers I think 1 was by Neutrogena and even moisturizers, i believe turnaround cream has BHA in it I noticed itd sting a bit it if I applied it really close to my eyes and it definitely purged my skin. It brought out my blackheads and whiteheads but then my face got really clear this was way back in the 1990s when I was in highschool but Now there's alot more products available a really wide variety of options and different strengths too like using chemical and physical exfoliants to keep my skin clear and more radiant and smooth it looks and feels so much better without dead skin cells and grime in my pores lol. Even now if I used glycolic acid it purges my skin .

Thank you for sharing your skincare journey! It’s so interesting to hear how products like salicylic acid and BHA worked even back in the '90s and how skincare has evolved so much since then. Totally agree that exfoliation, when done right, makes such a big difference. Love how you stayed consistent and found what works best for your skin. Inspiring!
