differin gel causing PIH

I started Differin about 5-6 weeks ago and I did purge (still am) and I broke out mainly around my mouth that has left a lot of post acne red marks :( I’m feeling really down about this because my skin is looking worse than before. How do I know if it’s an allergic reaction or purging? I almost want to stop using it but also want to tough it out.

hi! make sure youre only using adapaleme for 2-3× a week. Adapelene is very strong retinol which mean it can easily cause irritation. If you want to make sure, patch test it in the area behind your ears and see how they react. Apply it on dry skin (penetrate deeper for damp skin and may cause irritation). You can also mix the gel with hyaluronic acid serum, moisturizer, or sandwich with moisturizer (apply moisturizer then retinol then another layer of moisturizer) to lessen the irritation. This can help lessen purging, but if it break you out rven when used correctly then I recommend stop using it. Its also important to use hydrating and soothing ingredients like niacinamide or hyaluronic acid because adapalene can be drying and irritating. Make sure to wear sunscreen, this make your skin more sensitive to the sun:)

Dry/Sensitive

try to reduce the usage to 2/3x per week, apply soothing products to calm the red acne scars, for PIH, you can try azelaic acid
