Salicylic acid VS Betaine salicylate VS Willow bark extract

Salicylic acid VS Betaine salicylate VS Willow bark extract - do they work the same? I have heard efficacy of 4% Betaine salicylate = 2% salicylic acid, does it really work this way? I don't have much knowledge on this, and have not done substantial research or looked into academic papers about this yet. Based on my personal experience, I did not find Betaine salicylate or Willow bark extract to provide any significant effects in terms of exfoliation for my skin (oily, acne prone). Only Salicylic acid has helped me a lot in this area. I often see products containing Betaine salicylate or Willow bark extract say they have exfoliating properties, and that they are providing a more gentle form of exfoliation. I'm curious, if they actually do work and help exfoliate, just not sufficient enough for me / my oily skin? Are they also indeed more gentle? What do you think of these ingredients, were they helpful for you? Would love to hear if anyone has any knowledge or personal experiences to share 😊

My skin is okay with all of the ingredients mentioned but I personally loving the willow bark extract more 😂😂 It helps to control oil on my skin better than salicylic acid 😁

They don't work the same. Willow extract is different than salicylic acid and betaine salicylate is 2% SA with 4% betaine - this one will be better for more sensitive skin than pure salicylic acid

not really sure about the effectiveness, but salicylic acid over 0.5% is banned in europe and many asian countries , so thats why you ll find BetSa or willow bark extract in European/ Asian products

Oh, I knew there were restrictions in S. Korea, but I didn't know this apply to Europe as well. Thanks for sharing, that explains for the use of alternatives

I personally love and probably prefer Willow Bark as an exfoliator, I have quite sensitive skin and find this is the best option to give me the results I want without leaving my barrier damaged, or my skin sensitized.

Thanks for sharing! I find it didn't work well for me so I was hesitant to recommend Willow bark/Betaine salicylate to others, but it's good to hear others did see positive results. I will keep these in mind when recommending products to my sensitive friends out there
