This sounds like it’s unfortunately breakouts since you’re experiencing them in places you never actually have pimples and they are painful 😭 i would probably stop using it as it sounds as a bad reaction rather than purging 😫
▶️purging
Pimples pop in “usual” places
Should last only for about a month to two months (2-8 weeks)
Usually heal/disappear faster
Not itchy or swollen
▶️breakouts
Pimples appear in new areas
They last as long as normal breakouts
Can be itchy/painful

Not this cleanser specifically but I have been using a serum with salicylic acid and I broke out in tiny bumps on my forehead. I just trusted the process and it went away within 2 weeks with continual use of my serum. Since yours are a little more than that, I think you should stop using the cleanser because SA allergies DO exist. My sister got severe cystic acne from SA, and had to go on accutane just to control it, so be cautious of ingredients list with SA.

Amg is completely right! Are you by any chance allergic to aspirin? Usually people who can’t take aspirin may also be allergic to Salicylic Acid.

Hi! This cleanser have salicylic acid so purging could be the case. Although I think its break out while reading your story. If you used the cleanser for a while now (more than 2 weeks or around that time) then its probably break outs. For now, stop using it and see how your skin is doing, then i(f you want to be safe), you can use it again to see if its really the cleanser that broke you out. If its the cleanser then i recommend stop using it on your face to lrevent break outs :)

I’m not a professional, so do take what I’m saying with a grain of salt - but I personally don’t think you can experience purging from a wash off product, such as a cleanser in the way you would with a leave on. Also, because you’re experiencing breakouts in places you typically don’t, I think it’s irritation/breakout vs a purge.

I haven't used the CeraVe cleanser but I had a similar kind of experience using the overnight honey mask from cosrx. I have stopped using it and now my skin is alot better. Take a break from the product and see if your skin gets better
