niacinamide in skincare routine

Hello, i switched to cerave moisturizer. Before that i was using the bioderma one that doesn’t contain niacinamide. The Cerave one has niacinamide quite high in an ingredient list. With that Bioderma moisturizer i was also using niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% daily both in the morning and evening. Now as i’m using Cerave one (also 2 times a day) i’m concerned if it’s not too much niacinamide for my skin. Is it possible that it may do harm to my skin? How can i manage to continue using both (moisturizer and serum) without concerns?

Hi! It can sometimes be sensitizing to double up on ingredients, but it doesn’t have to be. I’m not sure how much niacinamide is there in the cerave moisturizer, but i don’t think it will be sensitizing if you want to use it with a 10% serum since you’ve never had problems with a serum. I would just observe your skin for the next few weeks to see if there is no sign of irritation. Personally, i also use 10% niacinamide and i have a few products, like a first essence, that have around 2% niacinamide and i use them together because i need a higher percentage to control the sebum and oil production and 2% doesn’t cut it, but it’s hard to find niacinamide free first essences 😅 so just observe your skin, but if you can handle it then it shouldn’t harm you 😉

I got the same problem but with a new serum :) I switched to using my serum and my niacinamide on separate days. I use my serum with nia on the weekend and my single Nia on the other days. You could use a different cream at night and use it in your pm routine. Also you could use your Nia every other day. <3

Hey dear, I just looked it up and found that it contains about 4% niacinamide.. To be fair I don't think that 14% niacinamide a day would hurt your skin badly. Most people I heard talking about bad experiences had Nia in multiple products :) but you should definitely try it and see how your skin reacts!! Lots of love! And have a nice Christmas time <3

i would observe how your skin reacts but you only need 2-5 % niacinamide for its effects and benefits ! everything over it just means more potential irritation so i would consider cutting out the serum and maybe continue using it after you finished the cream ! but in the end just listen to your skin , if it doesnt reacf you might even consider to just continue using both

You can use both especially if your skin tolerates it but it’s not necessary. The Cerave pm facial moisturizer (see attached) has 4% niacinamide which is the concentration it’s clinically effective at. You don’t need to use the serum containing 10% niacinamide with that. You can use your 10% niacinamide with the Cerave moisturizing lotion...this doesn’t contain any niacinamide and it would only be 10% Niacinamide is a skin care superstar so it’s safe for all skin types in most people
