Hydrocolloid Patches

Do Hydrocolloid patches actually work for pimples? Milia? Blackheads? Do I have to buy the expensive brands? Which ones work best? Has anyone tried peace out? Dollar store? Mighty Patch?

They are magical. I always put it on a raised pimple and the next morning when you take off the patch all that’s left is a little mark on the skin. You can see on the patch where all the gunk was sucked up, which is gross but very satisfying. If you’re from the US, dollar tree sells them and honestly, they work EXACTLY the same as the rest of them (unless we’re comparing patches with actives in them). So yes, I do use the $1 pimple patches and I absolutely love them. They don’t help with blackheads tho, that’s BHA’s job :)

Hydrocolloid patches work best on open pimples to suck all the gunk out and help speed up the healing process. I've tested a few but the one I like the best for whiteheads is actually the Band Aid Hydro Seal. If you have a large breakout you can just use the patch as is but if you have smaller pimples you can cut the patch into whatever shape you need. I find that it sticks better to my skin than other pimple patches and is much cheaper and easier to find.

The patches will work for any pimples that have surfaced (aka fluid filled popped pimples). It will not work on milia. If you have a pimple that's under the skin but hasn't surfaced the patches will not do much. For surfaces pimples these are amazing because they help draw out fluids from the pimple to help it drain faster so that it flattens out an she comes less noticeable. You don't need to spend a lot of money on patches at all. I use CosRx and like them quite a bit. The main differences between patches is how sticky they are, how they thick/noticeable they are, medicated vs non medicated (some have small spikes on them). You can easily use drugstore hydrocolloid ones and just cut them to size and it's less expensive.

I like them! They don’t magically make my pimples go away in one night, but after a few nights it dramatically decreases the size of the pimple and helps keep myself from picking at them. Cosrx has a pretty nice one that’s less than 10$! No need to break the bank for skincare!:)
