Cicaplast Balm not a Moisturizer?

Recently I’ve been seeing people say this about balms in general that they can’t be moisturizers. Especially in the case of the Cicaplast I find it so confusing. Because the balm has both humectants and emollients which are typically the requirement for a moisturizer. In general I consider most balms as thick moisturizers, and may use them after serums or after a lighter moisturizer depending on how I feel. Do you think balms can count as moisturizers? @sherri4g, you weren’t the only person I had seen say this , that’s why I said “I’ve seen people say”. So I wanted to ask a general question to see what the consensus was

Balm is moisturizer. Depends on your skin type, different people need different moisturizer. Some is good with only gel or lotion, some need cream while others may love balm. Though balms are designed more towards dry skinned folks but it also can be used elsewhere like hands, feet or your body. I use balm in the winter when my skin is bloody dry but for summer I’d go with gel cream. Edit: I believe Dr.Dray or Dr. Sherenee Idriss talked about this before but I could be misremembered.

Yep. You could always ask the person on the other thread what difference they see between the two products. I'm definitely not someone who would ever use a balm.

That was me. Curious why another thread was started instead of asking. Cicaplast Baume bills itself as many things, and I am taking this right from the brand's website. Moisturizer is one of the things it says it can be, also a balm that provides anti-irritation benefits against bug bites, diaper rash, cuts and burns. LRP recommends thd Baume for dry, irritated skin and for those who have rough, cracked skin, dry skin irritations on the face & body, diaper rash, sensitive skin. From me: most people I know use this as a treatment or rescue product, it's too much to use daily. I have dry to very dry skin and even for me wearing it all over even as a sleeping mask is too much as it's too heavy and it can cause irritation by coating my skin in a layer that doesn't fully absorb. As a spot treatment, or on my body it's perfect and I keep some on hand. For people treating after tretonin or strong retinol, it helps lock in their hydrating products. I hope the long explanation of why I said what I did helps.

I use a balm instead of vaseline for 'slugging' because vaseline is a bit too much for me. So I'd use it occasionally, particularly in winter. I still see it as a rich and occlusive moisturiser, which could probably suit for drier types to be used daily. We each go for what our skin needs!

I think people say it's not a moisturizer as in it's not something for daily use. I love Cicaplast but using it daily?? No thanks😬 It stays on top of my skin and isn't absorbed like a regular moisturizer. But if ppl like it daily then good for them.

I think because a balm is thicker than a moisturizer, it may not feel comfortable on some folks’ skin, but if you are having good effects by using balms as another person would use a moisturizer, then keep doing what you’re doing! 😊
