Mugwort epiration date?

I ordered the Mugwort Essence by I'm From in December 2021 and only received it in June. By then I had two other products open that I wanted to finish before opening the mugwort one. I finally got to it today, only to see that the expiration date was in August. Obviously I'm reluctant to throw it out because it was expensive, I checked the smell and it seemed fine and I'm doing a patch test just to be sure. Since it's just one ingredient I figured it can't be that bad to use even after the exp date. But are there any truly horrible consequences to doing this or should it be fine for at least a few months?

The issue with one-ingredient products is that it does not contain preservatives as such, so their expiration dates and PAO are short and I'd really avoid using them after expiration. Luckily (?), in the case of the I'm from Mugwort essence there are preservatives but they're used early in the extraction process (if I understand it correctly) so they're not on the ingredients list. Still, no one would dare to say it's safe to use expired products (the expiration date is not there for fun). So it's really up to you. Since there are no actives, the worst thing would probably be if the bottle got contaminated by something, then it could cause breakouts or irritation. Also, I'm curious where did you buy it with such a short expiration (I hate it when sellers do this 😣)? I bought one last year from Wishtrend but it expires next year.

I know it's probably a bad idea but I feel like it's a waste if I don't at least try it. I'll test it out on one cheek and hope for the best 😭 I got it from a local retailer, I live in the middle east so shipping is often pricier than the products themselves and it's more cost efficient to do group orders. I don't know which website they order from tho.

i personally wouldn't use an expired product no matter the smell and consistency. I did that once (unknowingly because it was the brand's fault for using not enough preservatives in their toner) and I got DEEP and PAINFUL cystic acne. i'm not telling this is what will 100% happen to you but ehhhh I wouldn't tempt the devil. Btw, where did you order this essence???😲😳

yikess I got two cystic pimples last week and it was horrible. I wouldn't want to risk that tbh but it's such a shame :( I got it from a local retailer where I live, it's difficult to order stuff online because of shipping expenses so often retailers do group orders and resell locally.

Just like the two person already mentioned using it on Face would be quite a risk but you can use this on your body as well since you said the smell and everything seems fine.

tbh I'd use it for the body only, expiration date is there for a reason
