Basically, you shouldn't use it with other strong actives in the same routine because they could be too irritating. That includes vitamin C. It's best to use vitamin c in the morning, since it's an antioxidant, and retinol in the evening because it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. AHAs and BHAs should also be used in the evening for the same reason, but not in the same routine as retinol. hope that helps

since retinol has an exfoliating effect on the skin's surface that can help improve texture & tone. so it may cause dryness, redness, itchiness, irritated skin & peeling skin. in the same routine: avoid exfoliants & vitamin c works well together with niacinamide & hydrating agents here's more explanation about which ingredients (esp active) can be combined with retinol by picky: https://blog.gopicky.com/ingredients-that-do-and-dont-mix-with-retinol/

Yeah, everyone will tell you not to use vitamin C and Retinol in the same routine because it can irritate your skin (it won't lower the effectiveness). But everyone's skin is different and so are the products. I'm using Retinol 0.1% cream and Vitamin C 12% with Ferulic acid serum in the same routine and it works great for me. 😊 So if you'd like to use them together, simply patch test it and you'll see how it works for you 😉

It is not recommended to use retinol with AHA, BHA, or vitamin C because of the increased risk for skin irritation, but it does not mean that you cannot do it. Also avoid using retinol in the morning because it is sensitive to light and will lose its effectiveness when you expose your skin to sun light.
