Yes it can feel really itchy when you first start using it and it can take a good while to adjust if you're particularly sensitive. I found using soothing products with it helps as does spacing your steps and using your azelaic acid on dry skin.
Also you can use every other day instead of everyday while your skin adjusts.

Yes, it is possible for azelaic acid to cause itching or burning sensations on the skin. While azelaic acid is generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild irritation or sensitivity when using products containing this ingredient. Itching or burning can be common side effects when starting to use azelaic acid or if the concentration of the product is too high for your skin's tolerance. These sensations are usually temporary and tend to subside as your skin adjusts to the product.

I couldn't tell you about its use for dermatitis though, I use azelaic acid for melasma.

Yes this is possible especiallu in the beginning or when the skinbarrier is damage for me. Also when used alongside some other ingredients like acids or retinol it can increase that stingy sensation. As well as for me applying it on damp skin causes a bit more irritation so I like to apply azelaic acid on dry skin. Often these sentation will go away after you've been using it for a while. If not you might just not tollerate it well 😬
