Daily Color Analysis Experience in Seoul
I was able to make an appointment about a month ago with @cocory_personalcolor in Hongdae on my first full day in Korea this past Monday for a Daily Personal Color Analysis. The session cost KRW100,000 or about $75. I contacted them on Instagram & paid a deposit of KRW30,000 to hold my appointment.
After arriving, the 1st step was to fill out a google form with personal details, why I booked & where I had heard about their service. I had seen someone post about them on Instagram and this was something I always wanted to do, so I thought I’d share my experience.
My Color Consultant explained Color Theory, the 4 season concept (Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter) and the Korean Model of color analysis with 3 subgroups based on your complexion & undertone.
I learned that your personal colors can change, based on skin tone, hair color & image you wish to project. You can also wear some colors from all seasons.
During the presentation, I was asked to select my favorite color palette from 4 options- I like blue so picked the palette for Summer. My 2nd choice was Autumn shades like green (favorite color to wear).
The next step was to use a cube shaped tool that does a 3 different measurements to determine my skin undertones & brightness.
2 scans were taken near base of jaw and I found out I’m cool toned. I was classified as a Summer Soft for my Daily Palette, the opposite of what I thought.
(I assumed that I was an Autumn)
We then spent about 30 minutes with the color drapes to review my best colors from my daily palette and other seasons. You are supposed to focus on your eyes, under eye & cheek area to see if colors brighten or dull your complexion.
We checked all 3 Summer palettes (Whitish, Pale, Soft) & confirmed the Summer Soft colors were best for my Daily Colors. I also selected my 3 best colors from the palette (light green, blue and purple shades)
Then drapes from other seasons were applied & we selected Autumn Soft & Spring Light, plus Winter Deep (for work). The Autumn Soft and Summer Soft drapes appeared similar to the eye, but obviously one was warm toned and one was cool. The Spring Light color also worked and Winter dark are cool toned shades for professional situations. My worst colors were the very bright or vivid colors.
We also looked at White/Gray/Black tones. I can wear white to light gray but black for tops are not my best. However I can still wear them with white or bottoms.
Jewelry colors were next. I have a yellow gold chain with a cartouche engraved with my name that I’ve worn for years. I also have white gold but never wear silver. Since I’m cool toned I can’t wear gold, but silver & rose gold, both shiny.
She also reviewed my best makeup shades, lip colors and hair colors using cards. My hair is colored (dark auburn) and while ok I’m better off using a purple red if I want to keep being red.
Lastly, we reviewed my existing makeup (mostly Autumn shades) & foundation color. I use 21 in Winter and 23 in Summer (yellow based), but my best color needs to be Pink toned, either #22 or #23. I was shown some brands & shades to select for blush & eyeshadow. Funny thing is that my lip products I showed were all similar shade’s & already in my palette.
The experience was so much fun & I learned a lot. If you have the chance to visit Korea, I highly recommend getting your personal color analysis with Cocory!
