Layering and Product/Routine order help please!

In what order do you apply your morning and evening products, and how long to you wait in between applications? For example if you have an oil such as Rosehip Oil , an ampoule, more than one serum, lotion , cream , Pimple treatment product such as salicylic acid and differin , product with aha/bha, or glycolic acid, retinol , and/of niacinamide , dark spot lightening wand , sunscreen etc etc - Which products would you use in the morning and which at night? Also what order would you later them in and how long do you wait in between product applications? If you don't wait for a product to dry /absorb before applying next product, could that make them ineffective? Are there any products you would not layer together or use/mix in the same routine?

Hi, I usually wait till the product is fully absorbed before applying the next product. √Order of application Typical order: cleanser, toner, serum, ampoule, cream/moisturizer, sunscreen And the golden rule for ordering which to apply first is based on the consistency of products. You'll want to apply from the lightest to thickest consistency. √Morning or night Avoid photosensitive ingredients in the morning routine such as AHA (glycolic acid), retinol and differin. You'll also want to avoid using acids and retinols in the same routine unless your skin is resilient for that. - Morning: niacinamide, vitamin C - Night: AHA, retinols Basically, some ingredients work/penetrate better when apply on dry skin. Also, you may have uneven application if you didn't apply on dry skin. I wouldn't say it's a day or night difference, but a having the right habit is important. Hope it helps ☺️

So idk about other people but here’s how I layer my products (cuz it works me) - apply lightest to thickest (oil after serum and before moisturizer in my opinion) - apply hydrating/moisturizing products on damp skin for better absorption and make them more effective (except sunscreen and actives: AHA/BHA//PHA/RETINOL/VIT C… wait for your skin to be fully dried to apply sunscreen and actives) - non-actives for AM and actives for PM (except Vit C which is good for AM) - never have actives in the same routines (if it works for you, it’s great but be careful)

after washing, apply water based products thinnest to thickest then oil based products thinnest to thickest. if you use oil based products first the water based ones wont be able to get through it. exfoliating acids MUST be used B E F O R E retinoids by AT LEAST 30 minutes. Generally it is advised not to use them together but if you really want to, you can use the acids in the morning and the retinol at night, use them on alternating nights, use exfoliating acids 1x/week and skip the retinoid that night, or wash with exfoliating acids and rinse them off WELL before waiting 30mins or more and then applying the retinoid. in the morning the ampoule by traditional wisdom would go first after washing, then serums, then lotion and sunscreen, but follow the rule of water-then-oil first to avoid pilling. as far as actives go, i wouldn't mix multiple products with ahas/bhas with glycolic acid AND retinoids or youll destroy your skin barrier. i would pick one product with ahas and/or bhas (depending on the formulation) OR salycilic acid OR glycolic acid and use that in the morning. assuming this is in cleanser form, you can use vitamin c in the mornings as well if you a) introduce it slowly and b) wait a bit after washing off the cleanser (and make sure the cleanser is THOROUGHLY off your face first). if it's a serum/toner/something you don't rinse off don't mix them, they dont play nice. you can use the retinol at night (i recommend using a non-exfoliating and more gentle cleanser before that but ymmv, maybe even smth with azaleic acid in it which makes retinol work better if tolerated). Niacinamide you can use anytime of day as long as you follow the water before oil and thin before thick rules + standard order of operations. My routine looks like this: morning salicylic acid and azaleic acid cleanser (water based) iunik black snail serum versed moisture maker hyaluronic acid serum (oil based) beekman 1802 milk shake toner beekman 1802 dream booster bakuchiol serum beekman 1802 collagen booster peptide serum pacifica glow baby eye bright cream moisturizer and spf avene cold cream lip balm night routine salicylic acid and azaleic acid cleanser (water based) iunik black snail serum versed moisture maker hyaluronic acid serum (oil based) beekman 1802 milk shake toner beekman 1802 dream booster bakuchiol serum beekman 1802 collagen booster peptide serum aloe vera with tocopherol night cream with granactive retinoid avene cold cream lip balm

between water based products i usually wait 1-2 mins, between the water and oil i usually wait 2ish, between oil based products i wait a minute or so. putting this altogether i would say: exfoliating acids in the morning in a cleanser form, preferably something gentler than not, dark spot wand (which i am assuming has vit c), then the ampoules and serums assuming they don't have any incompatible actives (think niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, etc). then i would use the lotion, then spf. at night i recommend a gentle face wash as discussed above, or the same one w your chosen exfoliating acid + a thirty minute wait IF your skin can tolerate it. then any hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, etc serums ampoules etc. this is when you use your retinol and the cream.
