I think Retinol more important. If you don’t think your skin need toner, you can just skip it :)

How old are you and what's your skin concern? Toners and retinoids are two totally different types of products that target different concerns

@aremlyf, if you don't have major concerns such as acne, retinoids aren't needed yet for your age. To have a clear and healthy skin, follow a simple routine with exfoliation 2 weekly, hydrating toner, a good moisturizer, sunscreen, and double cleansing in the evening routine- this should be enough.

I think you should do both! The toner is going to create a base layer of hydration so that your retinol would work more effectively. Before you apply retinol, make sure the toner absorbs into the skin so it doesn’t cause irritations.
