No. But double cleansing can damage the skin barrier IF OVERDONE. And a damaged skin barrier can cause breakouts. OR you already had your skin barrier damaged before starting double cleansing with an oil again (two rinses).

there’s no reason for purging. Purging only happens when cell turnover is sped up.
unless one of your cleansers have some thing like salicylic acid or an alpha hydroxy acid, then you might be reacting to the cleanser, or like a previous commenter said, over cleansing

Looks like @jingsromeo just copied some of your comment. So annoying when people do that!

You're most likely breaking out than purging. Purging can only occur if you used any AHAs, BHAs or retinoids as they speed up the skin cell turnover. You might be breaking out from the cleansing oil or the face wash. Maybe some of the ingredients in it doesn't agree with your skin.

I agree!! When I used a cleansing oil that had coconut oil in it, it definitely made me break out. Alternatively, maybe your second cleanse isn’t removing the oil well enough from your skin and so it’s not all getting washed off causing it to clog your pores.

So using micellar water + foam/gel cleanser would count as double cleansing. What is it that you do now?

Yes, on my skin, usually when I use an oil cleanser, such as cleansing oil or cleansing balm, sometimes it makes purging and even breaks out because the ingredients in the oil cleansing I use are not suitable for my skin.
