General rule is always thinnest to thickest, no matter the type of product BUT if you’re using actives then it will be a bit different cuz most of the times the order of which active should go first to the skin so it gets to work better without getting buffered by other products, while the opposite trick may goes with retinoids…as for beginners or sensitive skinned folks may want to do the sandwich method using moisturizer as the buffer to reduce irritation. At the end you want to seal everything with moisturizer ☺️

I agree! this so-called rule is...confusing and sometimes makes no sense. we should look at the serums ingredients and purposes, not just the textures.

This thinnest to thickest """rule""" is for serums, not for the entire routine. So apply your products normally and then when it comes to serums, you apply from thinnest to thickest.

Sounds weird when i first started too but I do go for thinnest to thickest now. Sometimes I change it by routine for eg:
If my toner is thicker than serum, than I use the toner for day and the serum for night

definitely use a toner directly after cleansing now matter how thick bc a toner is designed to prep the skin for your serums and creams 😊
