which step is azelaic acid??

I was prescribed skinoren 20% azelaic acid cream recently and not sure when to use it in my routine. Is it: 1. hydrating toner (HA) -> moisturiser + let dry 10mins -> AA cream 2. hydrating toner (HA) + let dry -> AA cream + let dry -> moisturiser 3. AA cream + let dry -> hydrating toner -> moisturiser (concern with no.3 is that shldnt the toner be used in damp skin since it has HA?) etc i've been doing 1. to minimise irritation to skin but what do y'all think? which is the best way to use AA or other ways that are not included here? Thanku in advance!

I think 1 is the best way if you want to minimize irritation. But as you use it more often you can move to 2

#2 makes most sense to me, since azelaic acid is a treatment, even if it's in the form of a cream.

#2, I’ve used it that way too. Specifically I’ve used this (the Azelaic Acid product below) the same way as recommended by Paula’s Choice. It’s a treatment so it benefits from using it like #2.

2 to me would be the best way to optimize your products. Azelaic Acid is a treatment so it will go before your moisturizer. You can start out slow every 2 to 3 days and then build up from there.

Method #2 is the usual way to apply azelaic acid in a skincare routine but if your skin barrier is compromised (inflamed and/or you’re breaking out), I would recommend Method #1 to avoid irritating your skin further.
